Kobe, ready & waiting with your trusty umbrella for the rain to fall. Unfortunately it was a dry afternoon.

Kobe, these yellow gumboots your loving Aunty Annie bought you last year are getting quite a daily workout. There is much puddle jumping to be done!

Upcycling in the garden

There is so much wastage when children are involved; I cringe at the amount of food Kobe wastes let alone the amount of colouring paper he rips up on a daily basis (everything is rubbish for his rubbish bin, his bin obsession is back in full force). Im always on the hunt for ways to upcyle. Here are a few things saved from the rubbish tip upcycled to use in the garden.

I thrifted these gnomes (I love me a garden gnome) & touched up an old pot with a lick of bright paint. I started with a couple coats of Taubman's 3 in 1 sealer then painted over the top. Unfortunately the lil one broke the yellow gnome so the top half of him is now sitting in the garden hedge.

We drink lots of milk in this house. I love this idea from bohemian Café The Bakery, I visited in Margaret river last year. Genius!

I always see pallets every verge collection, which makes me oh so tempted to make this DIY vertical pallet, you could probably use empty formula tins/ or coffee tins as the pots?

Another idea for old tyres. Hmmm wonder if Luke notices if I make this swan tyre planter out of one of his spare tyres sitting in the garage... Decisions decisions.

Feel feel to share any links to other upcycled garden projects in the comments below.

Black & white

Hmmm something strange is happening to me, I find myself drawn to dressing in black & white where I usually flock to colour. It may have something to do with the dreary chilly weather or the couple of sombre sick days I had at home this week. Here is my pick of some lovelies floating around the net.

16/52, 17/52 & 18/52

Kobe, you had your first day of pre kindy warm up class (obviously you wore shoes there, just not in this photo). You were very shy & did not let me out of your sight.

Kobe, you taught your nano (nanna) a valuable lesson this week. Not to promise an almost 3 year old that you will bring them coloured marker pens & rock up empty handed. Man you did not let off about it, still sooking 40 minutes later. Not sure who was more frazzled, nano or you?

Kobe, you are always go go go but you always have time for cuddles for mama. Here we are basking in the sweet Autumn colours.

Rose heritage cafe: As pretty as a picture

The annual Bickley harvest festival is on this weekend which means droves of people will frolic to this little gem of a place; Rose Heritage Café. Just one of 15 places highlighted in this years festival program.

I tend to go a couple times a year. There are not many cafes that overlook a beautiful nursery. Or have a gazebo over a pond where the largest koi fish of all the land live. We bring bread & throw it in the water & watch the feeding frenzy begin. Even the ducks get involved & the koi fish aren't fazed by them. We were last here about 5 weeks ago.

(I finally cottoned on to pack some crayons & colouring books to entertain fidgety toddlers while waiting for meals to be brought out).

(The following photos are from when we visited in April 2013).

At certain times of the year, rose infused drinks are available. The rose milkshake is delightful but I found the rose-ade (rose lemonade) a tad bitter.

Its hide & seek time in the flower bushes!

& if no one is about you may find daddies sneakily entertaining the lil ones in the garden carts.

Rose Heritage cafe gets very busy if you want the best seat, its smart to book in advance.

September is Tulip time. Brilliant hues of pink, purple, yellow, oranges, reds & then some. (These pictures were taken in 2012. Back when Kobe was a wee lil thing).

Whenever we are out with family, I tend to push Kobe towards their plates so I can try to selfishly eat my food without interruptions. Unfortunately the dream of eating mouthfuls of food at my own leisurely pace with an energetic toddler about is just that, a dream. I gave him one of the flower table ornaments to play with to give me an extra 5 minutes to devour my lunch.

Mama needs her coffee pick me up.

They even hosts weddings here so fellas if you like it then you better put a ring on it. Well except you Luke I rather choose a sleep in over a ring lol. Each to their own.

I always seem to miss the summer months here. Which seems to be when the roses are in full bloom.

Sidenote: I apologize for the lack of food photos but the scenery just takes my breath away.

Happy Friday friends!
