My response "Darling don't forget vacumning & the dishes too"...
(a mama can certainly dream!).

Earth hour & a community garden festival

Words like "eco" & "sustainability" get thrown around a bit that a lot of people use them then forget to back it those words with action. I know Im guilty of using them to preach about certain environmental issues then I go backflip & buy the lastest fashion magazine & drool over the lastest throwaway fashion. Eh FAIL...

Habits are hard to break but I shall keep on trying to reduce, reuse, recycle. Im pretty good on the latter I mean it isn't hard to recycle & I am trying to reduce wastage on food by trying to grow my own small supply of fruit & vegetables. They seem to always go to waste in our house...

I needed inspiration so I gathered lovely friend Helen & headed to this community garden festival but unfortunately the weather gods let it rain down like buckets. My boots (& poor Helens jeans) was a bit dampened but the rain didn't wash away my enthusiasm for wanting to get back in my garden (not sure if you can call 2 small raised garden beds the neighbours cats use as kitty litter a garden but each to their own). I feel like there is zero advertising for community gardens, this is the first one I heard of, I thought they were myths only seen on tv like on River Cottage. Who knew you could hire a plot to grow what you want, you can learn to compost, gain general knowledge of how to look after your garden, or you can hire the passata or olive press. I doubt I could grow enough tomatoes or olives to be able to make use of them but just thinking about it if I could makes me smile. One small step at a time Grace...

I got home just intime to charge up some appliances before I turned unnecessary appliances like the tv & light switches off before Earth hour. Yes its cheating but I cant validate sitting in the dark (ok not necessary true as I had a giant candle plus one of those big ass torches) for an hour when I could use the time to watch River Cottage on a fully charged up portable dvd player. I love this show the foraging episode makes me want to run about town pillaging wild flowers, wild apples, wild parsnip if I only knew where to go other than the local farmers markets. So I sat on my bum, wrote this post & now plan to turn my barren raised garden beds into bountiful produce. I usually give up once the catepillars dine on the seedlings alfresco style but I shall persevere. Wish me luck that my idea doesn't just stay an idea & is out to fruition.

Wild about Wild Poppy cafe

Any café that's named after a flower gets my vote, & whats so special about Wild Poppy café (other than the food ofcourse) is that it is decked out just like Grandma's house. All velvet lounges, needlepoint, macramé plant holders, crochet throwovers & vintage floral paintings. Love love love!

The counter is cluttered lovingly with delightful treats like this rose chiffon cake (oh so yummy) & carrot cake.

I have been here on a many an occasion & it never disappoints. I cant go past the salmon. The food is fresh (juices are freshly squeezed) plus they have organic & vegan options too.

The café just pops out at you, its warm & inviting plus they have a toybox for the lil ones to run amuck with (& don't forget to pack away their mess when you leave ofcourse). Kobe was so excited to find a copy of Who sank the boat book.

But more excited by this giant sized cookie...

What I wore: crocodile hunting

Ok technically we didn't go crocodile hunting but we did find a giant fake crocodile, the safest crocodile to pat & sit on ha ha. Last weekend we took Kobe up to Kings Park synergy playlands for an adventure. He really enjoyed make believe play exploring & hunting for crocodiles, dinosaurs & footprints. It was our first time here & Im sure the first of many, its like a parents paradise with the wooden play forts to climb on, a playarea in the middle of an island (pond), miles of green for lil people to run & burn off energy, & a café adjacent.

Its officially Autumn & I welcome the slight chill in the air in the morning & night. Perfect weather for layers such as this lightweight kimono. I found this dress in an opshop & adore the burnt orange colour. (It also came with a kimono/vest which is available for purchase here if your interested:). I have been lusting over these headchains since I saw Nicole Richie wear them seasons ago & only now have I decided to get one. Ok I broke the ethical challenge Im partaking this year by buying something new but I figure everyone slips up once (or twice...).

The roar pose seems to be a firm favourite photo pose in this family;)

What I wore: Vintage embroidered dress/thrifted, sandals/ bought in Bali years ago, headcrown/ online, kimono/ already had in closet.

Happy Tuesday friends!

Kobe, we took you out to Kings park to have a little adventure where you dragged daddy along the wooden logs & log stump steps looking for dinosaur footprints. Im loving this stage, where you are starting to use your imagination for pretend play.

10 things

I have just watched old school movie "Ten things I hate about you" & thought I would randomly write ten things about me.

1.Collecting old school boardgames, y'know because everyone should have Inspector Gadget & Disney Tailspin. Vintage boardgame night anyone?
2. Wishing for some spare time for sewing. I actually cut out some things to sew, whether they actually get sewn is another story...
3.Feeling constantly tired.
4. Watching Madmen & Game of Thrones. So damn good!!!
5. Smiling at Kobe going on the potty, yay it f.i.n.a.l.l.y happened:)
6. Thinking that Luke is way overdue to cook dinner, while I kick back...
7. Recently enjoyed a dinner at Benny's with the gals.
8. Getting slightly addicted to Instagram. I joined a few weeks back, nothing like snooping into peoples lives via their carefully stylised photos.
9. Craving ice tea, so refreshing.
10. Looking forward to Easter, cant wait to do an Easter egg hunt for Kobe bear. Do you like my easter rabbits (ie. the bunnies photo header)?

How have you been?

"A portrait of my child once a week, every week in 2014".

Kobe after constantly telling me how "smarties seem like a good idea" on repeat allday everyday. It made mama proud when I saw you reach for an apple out the fruit bowl declare it "mine" then run off & eat it whilst also driving your toy car. Ofcourse halfway thru eating it, you threw it under the couch as you do all your food your done with...

Kobe, your favourite game at the moment is hide & seek in your big boy blanket. You love dragging it thru the house, laying it down wherever, crawling under it then demanding I come find you.

What I wore: to a birthday do

Im having a serious love affair with all things floral at the moment. I cant seem to get enough, maybe its the hot weather, who knows? Well this dress came about as Im trying to be good at the moment (sigh, wishful thinking) & get more wear out of items already in my wardrobe then buy more clothes I will barely wear...

However I spotted it blowing carelessly in the wind cooing my name on a market stall rack one Sunday morning. Next thing I know I paid for it & trolloped off one happy lady. Good intentions but bad follow up. I guess I can allow one slip up for this lovely dress.

Plus the sleeves cover up my bony arms which I despise. I know we are our own worst enemies when it comes to our bodies but these damn skinny arms of mine...

I try not to follow fashion rules & hence this clutch is actually a makeup bag hee hee. I just love the velvety feel, fuchsia colour & the fact it has a mirror built into it (which is perfect for lip gloss touch ups). Instead I have fun dressing up whatever my mood. Luckily for birthday gal Amanda I wasn't in a trackie pants mood lol.

What I wore: Floral dress/ thrifted, Kookai necklace/ already in wardrobe, YSL makeup bag (used as clutch)/ thrifted, Zomp shoes/ thrifted.

Sidenote: My whole outfit fits in with the A year of ethical fashion challenge Im partaking this year. Join in if you are keen:)
