A handmade christmas for the doglovers

At Christmas time its easy to get carried away spoiling the lil ones silly & forgetting about the fur children (pets). But not me, my foster fur child (aka my sisters dog Bob) I thought I would sew him a toy bone to run round with.

1.       I sewed the toy bone out of some thrifted denim fabric, a rattle (ripped out an old toy of Kobes), scrap felt, scrap red fabric, scrap ribbon, thread, sewing needle, sewing machine, scissors, tailors chalk, wadding (out of an old cushion I think) & lots of love- ha!

2.       I used my amateur drawing skills to outline a bone (times 2) on the denim which I cut out & also I cut out a smaller bone on the felt fabric.

3.       I sewed using red thread the white bone on the larger denim bone then pinned the ribbon to resemble a bow tie & sewed that down too.

4.       I thought I would give myself a headache & cut out small letters for “Bob” & applique them on, they were fiddly to sew but they turned out ok, yay for me!

5.       Next I placed the 2 denim bones right side (dark side) together & sewed them leaving a 10cm gap. Turned it inside out so that the dark denim was on the outside.

6.        I stuffed the wadding & rattle inside then hand sewed the gap closed & tada.

One mighty fine looking  Bob & dog bone to match.

And because I like to play dress up I had to go that mile extra & make him a santa beard out of scrap faux fur. (Things Auntys do when the owners pet is away on travels hee hee).

Merry Christmas Santa Bob:)

Happy Monday friends!

Stocking filler wishlist

1. Christmas stocking & 2. Mittens, Cath Kidson. 3. YSL colouring book, Book Depository (ok this is more for me than Kobe lol). 4. Thrifted christmas themed Golden books. 5. Annabel Trends Kids gardening gloves, Mr Sparrow. 6.Vintage picture blocks (now closed Ebay listing). 7. Tin snowman wind up toy, Ebay.

Well I have been a bad mama this year & all I have got round to is putting up some christmas stockings. In my defence, there isnt much room in our tiny house plus having a tree laden with sparkly decorations will only tempt a cheeky Kobe to touch & break (as my poor plants in the courtyard have learnt). The stockings are torn down a gazillion times a day by Kobe who will only put them back up when I mention Santa wont have anywhere to put the chocolate on Christmas day if there isnt any stockings up. He still has not much concept of Christmas but things that boy will do for chocolate well thats another story. Anyhow I thought I would do a round up of glorious things (new & old) scoured across the net which are perfect stocking fillers for the kiddies. "Santa" already has the Golden books & mini gardening gloves (& chocolate) all set for Kobe bear & if I am a good gal I may just get that YSL colouring book ha ha.

Happy Saturday friends!

Hello

Hello & welcome to "A Secondhand Life". Im Grace. Im proud mama of fiesty toddler Kobe & one on the way & better half to partner Luke (ha ha). This is my online journal of things I genuinely love bringing my story of "mixing the new with the old". I like to call myself a modern day frugal gal which just means I like to live a colourful life while on a budget. I try to do my best to make conscious choices that have the least amount of environmental impact (but sometimes failing). Here you will find inspiration for preloved things, crafts, fashion, decor, travel & kiddie stuff. Thanks for visiting!
