Frockstars: Inside Australian Fashion Week

Frockstars: Inside Australian Fashion week exhibition is down to its final days so if your wanting to see it at the Western Australian Museum you have until Monday 27th January to partake in this free exhibition. Go go go:)

Amazingly I was organized & saw this exhibit within its first few weeks of opening & only a few weeks ago have sorted the photos. (I blame the procrastinator in me in the lateness in photo sorting).Friend Chevaun & I saw this free exhibit when we visited Aurelio Costarella exhibition on at the same time.

(The Dion Lee dress in the middle is what dreams are made of, sigh!)

( A sneak peak inside a designers workroom plus there is also a wall of behind the scene photos with celebritys posing with designers).

Nothing like unleashing our inner fashion designers & letting loose creatively in the Easton Pearson workroom. I went a bit crazy & used leftover paper offcuts to make the floral ruffle tiers on my mini fashionista creation where Chevaun excelled & made a collection of 2 outfits.

Aurelio Costarella Exhibition: 30 year perspective

When I heard that self taught & hugely successful West Australian designer Aurelio Costarella was having a free exhibition at the Western Australian museum I didn't think twice about dropping Kobe (along with my mothers guilt) at poppy's for half the day.

Together with friend Chevaun, we oohed & ahhed over his fabulous creations. I can just imagine myself in that delicious burnt orange frock frolicking in parks on playdates (ha ha).

His gowns were cleverly dotted throughout the museum casually mingling in with the dinosaurs & animals. You definitely get your workout for the day running up/down stairs losing yourself in the sequins & frills.

I never realized that he use to trade under the name Ray Costarella until a deal went sour with his business partner in 1977 & he had to quit the label. Ray wasn't even his first name but a business name given to him by a former primary school teacher. In 2000, he was back in the game trading under his own name Aurelio Costarella. Fashion is a fickle industry & after the shock demise of Aussie designers Lisa Ho, Kirrily Johnston & Dana Mathers I too wonder if they will rejoin the fashion industry later down the track.

So much detailing goes into Aurelio's gowns with sequins, feathers, lace, beading & layers of fabric featuring in many of them. I even heard a rumour that Victoria Beckham regifted one of his gowns, VB I would gladly take any hand me downs lol :)

This exhibition is definitely worth a look for any Perth people & is on for a few more days until February 2nd. More info can be found here.

Happy Friday!

Kobe, you love nothing more than running around a million miles an hour throwing water balloons around in this stifling Summer heat. You even named one "Luka" the other day & proclaimed it your best friend. lol.

What I wore: to a playdate

I have a confession to make. When I was pregnant with Kobe I was that mum (well soon to be mama) that said I wouldn’t have any licensed products in my home for Kobe. Flash forward a couple years & Im scrounging flea markets & op shops for any decent Peppa pig or Wiggles merchandise I can get my hands on. How times have changed! Infact Im looking forward to when Kobe is old enough to love Disney (on his own accord). I even bought him Cars which he loved for about 3 months & I have Peter Pan & Nemo stashed away just incase.

My fave Disney characters as a kid was Mickey & Minnie mouse so when I saw this lovely preloved denim shirt with the Mickey mouse embroidery I knew it had to be mine. Its slightly large (as is mostly everything on my petite frame) & I teamed it with faux leather shorts & leopard print shoes & I had my outfit ready for a playdate. (PS. I never wear these faux leather shorts but Im doing the Ethical clothing challenge & making use of clothes/accessories already in my wardrobe).

Truth be told I don’t think Kobe would have been too fazed with Mickey if we hadn’t discovered a mouse (eek) in the shower the day before. All morning long Kobe would tell me “Im scared of the mouse” to the next minute “I wanna see the mouse it butyful (beautiful) & tiny”. So in full taking advantage of this newfound curiosity of mice I had to pull out some Disney ear headbands to encourage dressing up. Im starting small & soon enough I hope to have a lil one running round wearing all sorts of crazy costumes:)

What I wore: Mickey denim shirt/thrifted. Faux leather shorts/Ebay. Leopard print shoes/bought from Hobbs shoe store about a year ago.

Sidenote: My whole outfit fits in with the A year of Ethical fashion challenge Im partaking this year. Im posting one outfit a week.
Happy Thursday friends!

Joining in (a week late of course!) with Jodi's The 52 project. I really enjoyed looking at all the beautiful photos parents shared of their lil pride & joys every week last year that I thought why not join in this year.

Kobe this is you in all your silly dancing glory wearing an outfit of your own choosing. Rugby shirt tucked into denim nappy pants finished off with your grandma's sandals. You make mama laugh like no one can:)

Happy Wednesday friends!

Perth street style: ECU graduate show

While everyone else was dolled up in their finest threads ready to head out & celebrate New years eve I was winding down in my pajamas sorting thru these lovely fash photos forcing partner Luke to watch the Back to the future movie trilogy (so old school but that’s meJ).
In a sea of same same outfits, I love people who stand out & bring their own style. When not in my usual mama uniform of frumpy t-shirts & trackies I tend to side to a bit of quirkiness. Here are a few of my fave street style looks borrowed from the crowd who attended the Jiva Stemmata ECU fashion graduate show held a few weeks back.

Makes me almost want to chop all my hair off to mimic this pixie cut then I remember how long it took to grow my hair back when I cut it off years ago & change my mind.

Australias own Carrie Bradshaw!

The flower crown, a summer staple.

Pretty in pastel & I want that top badly...

That rainbow hair = divine.

What Luke would be wearing if he ever let me style him. FYI he would never let me style him. Pigs would sooner fly. This guy gets my vote for "best dressed guy at the show".

Last of all me (far right) with my lovely dates for the evening.

Happy Thursday friends!
